Too Cool For School!

Cute and funny title aside, school just isn't for us.

Our whole family learns seamlessly without a schedule, curriculum or tests. Without grades, age divided classrooms or rules. School seems more about controlling learning rather than invoking and expanding it. We are life explorers on an expedition and we've already seen what school has to offer. We want to know what the rest of the world is like. Especially since that's where we live most of our lives. Hope has been sounding out words more than ever before, all her choice with no pressure. She spelled a few names we didn't know she knew how to write all on her own. She is adding and subtracting in her head, something I couldn't even begin to do until my 20's. Hope's art is her joy and she's evolving each day as she learns a new technique or discovers a new perspective. Hope could spot an African Spotted Crane at 5, can articulate her feelings when many adults struggle and knows how to plant a garden. She's never been bullied, never been shamed, never been punished. She knows life consequences and how to rise above challenges. School would have forced her to do many things she was not ready for and not allowed the time for what she clearly is drawn to. She would have had to learn to stuff herself into the role school required of her instead of her education helping her blossom into who she truly is. Maybe we're too cool for school and maybe school is too cool for us. Either way, we found the most successful path for our family. We're #freeschoolin4life!

This Week

We attended the Barrie Bouncefest and met up with some of our favorite homeschool friends!

Hope received the sweetest Valentine's gift from them and was over the moon to hang out! Hope got to play Minecraft with someone other than Freeschoolin' Daddy for the first time ever! We also needed some supplies so we hit up Petsmart and visited all the animals. Hope took some pics too! Then we topped off this fun week with a long awaited visit with amazing friends at their home for a snack and game night. We stayed much later than we even knew because we were having so much fun. I totally gapped with pics, sorry! Can't wait to visit with them again!
