🌕 Freeschoolin' Hope's First Moon

Hope Is Becoming A Woman!

Before I share, I want to make it clear that Hope not only gave permission for me to share, she asked I tell the world about her first moon.

We've talked about it over the last year as I suspected it would be soon. 2 nights prior, we were talking about something that doesn't usually invoke a great deal of emotion from Hope, and she burst into uncontrollable tears. She was conscious of it and asked why this was happening to her. I attributed it to her Empath sensitivities, but looking back, it was clearly the first hormone wave of her life. The next day she declared it spa day, made tea and did cozy type things she doesn't usually request. 24 hours later she was coming out of an evening bath and Jaze was helping her when she all of a sudden shooed him out, closing the the door without a word. I was still oblivious but Jaze started to suspect, though he didn't mention it until afterward. About 15 minutes later Hope opened the door and told us she had something she wanted to share, but she didn't know how to say it. I was confused and then Jaze blurted out, "You got your period!", to which my jaw dropped and Hope beamed a smile. I melted into a motherly puddle of congratulations and support, helping her figure out how to work our earth friendly, re-useable cloth pads and get comfortable with this new chapter in her life. She was a sweetheart, inquisitive and enjoying the new experience, but cautious. We made delicious, organic date puree brownies and drank more tea in celebration. Hope's period lasted about 5 days, during which we attended an event at the Ontario Falconry Centre. She had no issues living her days like she normally would. I could not be more thankful for her coming of age experience and how she clearly felt comfortable having us so involved. We're already looking to what we'll do for the next one coming up. Congratulations Hope! You're growing up so fast!

THIS WEEK

Raspberry season is upon us! We are fortunate enough to have wild black raspberries grow all over the land, so we pick them to supplement our food budget. While Hope was helping she found a friend and said hello for a a while. Our new chicks are 1 month old now. We suspect we have 2 hens and one rooster. This of course means that I'll have to harvest one of them before the winter comes. Our life lessons continue. We spend lots of time cuddling and loving on both our sets of chickens so they are friendly and like pets, which we love. We had a LONG overdue visit with our great friends at Earth Valley Organics where we met their new ducks, horse and enjoyed time together talking, playing and sharing. We were gifted some of their AMAZING, organic spelt flour and have been baking up a storm ever since. This flour is to die for. It's so healthy, it's so soft and beautiful ,and makes everything we bake taste amazing!!!

Now that our car is safe to drive again, we have been taking advantage of living very close to a wonderful beach we love so much. Hope learned how to swim naturally and has been improving on her skills ever since. Now we can go out past the buoy line where it is too deep to touch without issue. She is working on her endurance, a vital part of safe swimming. Most people who get into trouble in the water are not unskilled, they are tired. We play games like monkey in the middle, marco polo and pretend when we swim, because it is fun, and because keeping moving means we can stay in longer, even if it's chilly. Hope says she is her best self in the water. Our beach also has a park so we hit that up when we feel like it. The storm that created the Barrie tornado this past week actually passed by our home so we were warned as well with official alerts. The storm was intense with rain, but harmless for us.

How You Can Help Us

We talked about our struggles a few blog posts ago, and called out for help. We are very close to finishing our 2nd Freeschoolin' children's book, which we hope will help in our goal, but until it is ready we are going to be asking anyone who can to spread the word of our currently available titles and our Freeschoolin' Clothing and More shop.

Our biggest following is on Facebook and they show maybe 500 people out of 11,000 what we post because we won't pay for ads. If we had the people's help in sharing about Freeschoolin' and what we offer I am sure we could get more of the support we need as a little family trying to make it in this crazy, big world. I do custom illustrations, logo packages and more, all of which you can contact me about.
