Freeschoolin' Discusses: Education Styles
There are many ways to home educate!
Radical Unschooling/Freeschoolin' Also referred to as whole life learning, Radical Unschooling/Freeschoolin' combines the principles of Unschooling and Peaceful Parenting in a radical way. Families follow their interests and passions to discover lessons daily. Facilitators follow the principle that the individual is is capable of charting their OWN education course from birth to adulthood. Homes are governed with respect and safety based boundaries rather than rules. Families use connection and communication to deal with conflict rather than punishments or coercion. Unschooling Unschooling focuses soley on the academics of life learning. Subjects are happened upon naturally through living life. Facilitators deschool themselves to abstain making a school environment in the home and rather focus on feeding students passion for discovery and their own interests. No tests, no curriculum. Using any and all resources that the world has to offer. Curriculum Based Homeschooling Some families buy curriculum and some source it for free through swaps or online. Curriculum Based Homeschooling requires students to follow subjects and a routine for their education. Waldorf and Montessori would fall under this category as well. Any sole use of any kind of curriculum would be included. Eclectic Homeschooling Families that take from any or all the basic styles of Home Education are Eclectic Homeschoolers. It is the most popular by far as many are not comfortable without some kind of instruction, though they do not want the rigid and unhelpful structure of school or having to religiously follow a curriculum. Whatever your style, make sure it works for you and your family! It can be easy to get caught up in fitting into labels which has nothing to do with home education. Learn your way, your style.
Our Radical Unschooling/Freeschoolin' Week
It finally snowed here! Hope is so happy! This week we needed to hit up our car garage which led us to a visit to a thrift store while we waited for work to be done. Hope was excited to buy a few things and upon our return, we had a random puppy encounter! We also devoured organic pumpkin pie made from this year's garden harvest for breakfast; so delicious and healthy made with only real maple syrup to sweeten. Hope decided to make herself an egg and while were were out on some town errands, she climbed a really big snow hill! Also there was drawing, minecrafting, games with Freeschoolin' Daddy, roleplay and animal videos on youtube.
