Seasonschooling: Fall

What is "Seasonschooling"?

Just a nifty little term I made up (or I've never heard it before) to describe how we determine what areas of life we focus on, and when. We are homesteaders/small-scale farmers and so our life revolves around the 4 Seasons of the year. Seasonschooling is letting the seasons dictate what is learned and when. Each season has weather conducive for many educational opportunities so we follow the forecast when deciding what do to each day, week, month. FALL It's Harvest time and the last of the warm weather before winter, so we take advantage as often as we can.

This year we bought a tent and the weather has been very warm, so we've been camping out on our land and visiting the beach frequently.

There has been plenty of opportunity for wildlife studies and outdoor activities.

Of course, we've harvested. Over 100lbs of potatoes ,a few pumpkins, many zucchini, lots of cucumber and carrots, tons of spinach and endless kale as well as several varieties of herbs.

Now we're putting the garden to bed for the winter so the soil will be ready for another growing season.

If we "hit the books" in September, we wouldn't have the successful harvest we did this year. Focusing on being outdoors as often as possible in the good weather makes us appreciate the beauty of Fall as well as the coming slower pace of winter.

We love this Freeschoolin'/ Seasonschooling life!
