Freeschoolin: Hope Teaches Herself
Life Is Learning.
And learning happens organically. No teacher, curriculum or work books needed. Unschooling allows students to focus fully on what their passions draw them to. Hope has had the freedom to captain her own educational ship, and because of it, she has learned what is important to her life, now and for the future. She doesn't need to wait, she is attending life university NOW and has been her whole life. What Has Hope Focused On So Far? Hope has taught herself many things. Here are 3 that she is most passionate about and focuses on daily. Drawing Since Hope could hold a crayon, she's been drawing. She is driven in her attempt to get the pictures from inside her head, out on to paper. From crayons, to pencil crayons, to markers, she's now making art that I could never have imagined and every day she evolves even more in her craft.
Animals
Hope has always been drawn to animals. When she was 5, she was sooo masterful with the bunnies at Big Curve Acres when we visited, they asked us to volunteer as a family which we did every summer until this past year. Our formerly abused rescue horse can be a hard guy to reach, but has always been a gentleman with Hope, taking her on pony rides whenever she asked and now letting her teach herself to ride on his back.
Roleplay
Hope has grown up with the world of imagination close at hand. Her stories have come to life through acting them out with our family and independently. Sometimes it's pretending with toys and sometimes it's hours of roleplay with Jaze. The stories grow more elaborate and she has become quite the actor and story teller.
Through these subjects and more Hope is learning all the things she needs to know for her future, naturally. The power of Unschooling/Freeschoolin'.
This Week Most of our attention was on our the haunted escape trail we put on, Hartland Horror. Hope debuted her scare acting career and had an absolute blast, despite getting covered in burrs, near freezing temperatures and everything being in the dark, outside. She fearlessly traversed our land to make the best scares possible, taking her work very seriously. Everyone who came out for our first run through had a great time and we can't wait to perform again for this week's bookings. We had fun working outside in prep for the event and even had a sweet campfire that deliciously broke through the chilly night air. Our family volunteered at Earth Valley Organics, covering their garlic beds with hay and enjoying their family's company tremendously. I also did another gentle horse training session where we got to see how their matriarch's passing had affected the heard socially. Billy and Chester taught us a lot and we're excited for another session as soon as time allows. Hope did a ton of drawing, youtube watching and pretending with Jaze. Often they will play on the porch and you can hear the peels of laughter from inside our little apt. #joy
