❓How To Unschool
For many, the idea of letting kids have free reign of their life sounds absurd, even dangerous. But really, that is the life we are all wishing to have. To be the captain of our own ship and do what we love our whole life long. If we raise kids up in a system that does not believe in the freedom to pursue their passions in life as a major priority, how can they even know how to find it when they are grown? Unschooling requires we leave the school mind behind and reconnect with the truth; we are always learning. We have endless resources available to us in this age, flourishing communities to socialize in, and many examples of success with natural learning in not only our modern age, but in our history as well.
How To Unschool Following these elements are the simple keys to keeping a curious and engaging enviroment for an unschooled life! Play. “Play is the highest form of research.” — Albert Einstein Let the kids play. Let the kids see you play. Find ways you can play together. Card Games, Video Games, Sports, Roleplay Games; we never need to grow up all the way! Having fun is living AND learning!
Create. Crafts. Art. Projects. We learn so much from building and doing and watching others do the same. Dive into your favourite creative pasttimes and share them with your kids. Offer new creative activities for the family to try. Indulge the intense focus that can come when students are in their making mindset. Explore. Adventure is out there! If we want our kids to understand the world and everything in it, we need to show it to them. Virtual Field Trips, Research Projects and Road Trips are all fun and immersive ways to discover the world we live in. Take apart a computer. Lift a rock and see what's underneath. Look up a word you don't know the meaning of. Find out what happens when you put baking soda and vinegar together. Keep curiousity alive!
That's It!
Just by Playing, Creating and Exploring in a nurturing, encouraging environment, we can learn everything we need to know without coercion, naturally.
This Week
Hope draws every day, many times a day. Her art is always such a gift and the fact that she eagerly shares with us is so moving. She knows I share her art online and she's happy to share with you too! Feel free to Send A Message to Hope about her art! Part of our social bubble includes our friends at Earth Valley Organics! We were happy to help pick red clover under a sunny blue sky with fluffy white clouds. We learned so much and it was wonderful to connect, as always. If you're new to the blog, you may not know that our family helps out here regularily since last year as essential workers. Hope's Fairy Godparents visited again for a night so we shared an organic meal together. The most exciting part of this week had to be our interview with INSPO TV! Hope took to the camera like she does to water and we had a great time meeting some really awesome people. Can't wait to share the video with you when it comes out! Thanks so much INSPO TV! You can catch their other videos here. Afterward Hope decided to paint a sculpture she'd been drying out. Our organic garden has exploded with Zucchini and other veggies which has kept us busy harvesting and processing.
