Freeschoolin' A Week @ The Beach
What Can You Learn from Spending A Week At The Beach?
Hope has been teaching herself to swim for years and we've been amazed at her progress. In just the last week alone, she has gained the understanding of her buoyancy and can easily float on her back any time she needs.
With a mask she can go deep and do front and back rolls in the water. Just this last few days Hope has begun to work at swimming on her front and can now cover short distances well. She's almost skilled enough to pass the swimming tests we've seen at pools in the past, which is exciting. I noticed that she copies me when I am in the water; the more I swim, the more she swims. I love the water and I'm so glad to have passed on this love to my dear girl.

Unschooling/Freeschoolin' requires altering our perception to see the learning happening everywhere, all the time, naturally. This Week Besides going to the beach every day, this week Hope rode her new bike and we moved around our tent (the ground was getting too wet) so we could sleep in it most nights to escape the heat. Our crops needed tending to, we gave our horse a cool sponge bath (Hartland Ranch) and every night this week Hope has requested the Hobbit being read aloud until she falls asleep. Her curiosity for deciphering words is gaining momentum and her spelling vocabulary is growing. Hope is always drawing or colouring and roleplaying. These are her core passions and we love to encourage her to dive as deep as she pleases. There's been Youtube, Minecraft, Animal Movies, Flower Picking, Video Making and we even met up with one of our resident snapping turtle Mamas searching for a good spot to lay her eggs. Yesterday (Father's Day) we reminded Jaze of how much we appreciate their dad skills and that we love them so much!!!!
