Freeschoolin' @ Pumpkinferno & More!

What adventures we had this week!

When we're unschooling/Freeschoolin', we're #nevernotlearning. We live life to learn! Our passions and interests fuel our days and this week it took us first to Pumpkinferno, a Halloween festival held at Discovery Harbour. We had never been to this event, nor the venue before, so it was an adventure in itself getting there and figuring out where to park.

This time last year we hit up Scales Nature Park and had a crazy time trying to find the place. It was very stressful and I definitely was in panic mode. I used what we learned then to help us for this trip and the stress level was much lower. Still lots of room for improvement but we celebrate our victories, however small. Progress is progress. We only fail if we don't keep trying.

So after our emotional intelligence and energy management lesson we ventured through the different light displays and explored the historical village. There was a "terror zone" that we all loved so much we did it twice, and a haunted office tour where the guide explained she had seen real paranormal activity! It was a really fun mix of Halloween and history.

The next day it was Jaze's (pronounced JAYZ) birthday. Our family is moving towards making celebrations about presence instead of presents so we visited a costume store to grab something Jaze has wanted/we need for our L.A.S.T. Productions business, watched whatever they wanted to watch and feasted on organic favourites; pizza from scratch made with raw cheese, nacho dip w/ tortilla chips and a giant banana split we all enjoyed as a family after the candles were blown out.

Halloween came right after and we were all excited for our Glow in the Dark Organic Halloween Hunt! It rained and was so cold we could see our breath but it was an amazing time for all of us as we ran all over our land following clues and finding organic candy. There were lit pumpkins and glow sticks all over the place, including some in empty toilet paper rolls I made into glowing eyes! I'm hoping to invite other folks next year now that we know it's such a hit!

The rest of the week was spent reading books together, doing waterplay, cooking, roleplaying, using the computer, watching Youtube, playing chess and so much more.

Hope loves to draw!
