Field Trip to Earth Valley Organics

Learning From The Land

Last year, we met the wonderful Kramarchuk family, fellow homeschoolers and stewards/keepers of a certified organic farm in Oro-Medonte, Ontario. Their gentle and respect driven approach to organic farming brings beautiful abundance to their fields and beds, warming the very core of everyone who enjoys their bounty. This year Alana worked with me to plan an event for our Un/Homeschool Club to visit their home and learn about organic farming. We gathered and weathered out a storm that threatened to dampen our fun, but soon were greeted by the sun and blue skies urging us out onto the land.

Our group toured their beautiful garden beds still bursting with delicious, organic life in so many varieties.

We visited their 4 beautiful horses and observed the farm's free range ducks enjoying their picturesque pond.

The tour took us through their apple orchard where we got to pick and eat fresh, certified organic liberty apples that everyone enjoyed.

We were set to do some flower picking but the rain came unexpectedly again so we detoured to a lovely wooded path to get some shelter. By the time we emerged from the forest walk, the rain had stopped and the sun returned so that Alana could talk about their organic spelt fields and more.

The journey continued past pastures and fields, a few of which had praying mantises to discover. (We made sure they were safely returned to the wild before moving on.)

Despite the intermittent wet weather, we had an amazing time and thank the Kramarchuk's so very much for opening their home and the land they care for to our club. Subjects We Learned About: Organic Farming

This Week This past week we hit up the Barrie Public Library unexpectedly and had some fun there, and Hope dressed up as Evie (a pokemon) to ride her bike and go shopping. There she spent some money on an adorable bow and some bracelets.

Hope was feeling some big feelings so she went for a walk with me and decided to ride River, our horse, on her own for the first time. She did amazingly and her years of working with our steed have paid off. We finally got to visit with our dear unschooling friends for the first time since their wedding in August and share a delicious meal together. It was so good to have them over and we can't wait for the next time. Another amazing family we had been missing game nights with also invited us to come over this past weekend and of course the fun went into the wee hours. So glad for such good friends!!!! We hope we make them feel as special as they make us feel! Sorry I didn't get pics! 💜
