5 Things Unschoolers Live Without

5 Things Unschoolers Live Without Article Title Page

What Do Unschoolers Live Without?

1. Curriculum Stress. Unschoolers don't use a curriculum so they don't have to worry about choosing or affording one. Students let their interests and passions lead their learning journey and facilitators support by offering new experiences and opportunities for discovery. Education is therefore tailored to each student specifically, something school and curriculum is not capable of.

2. Forced Schedules Unschoolers learn from life which happens at all hours of the day and/or night so there is no need to catch buses or be up for classes unless it is the choice of the student. Subjects do not need daily allotments as they are part of living life. 3. Tests Learning is it's own reward. When we truly glean a subject, we don't need to be tested on our knowledge of it arbitrarily. 4. "Summer Learning Loss" Self Directed Learning happens all year round because it is a joy to discover everything about the world and how it works. You can't forget what you loved learning! 5. Grades Instead of aiming for high grades, Unschoolers simply focus on the subjects they are passionate about learning. Students and Facilitators know when they are ready to learn new things and advance on what they already know, no grading required. What Unschoolers do live with is FREEDOM!

Note: Many Unschooling families are required/forced to follow testing and guidelines set out by their country/state. This is still Unschooling. Choosing to use curriculum, tests and grades is called Eclectic Homeschooling. (Which is totally a great way to learn and the most popular method among homeschoolers!)

New designs coming so stay tuned!

This Week The first day of school meant Not Back to School for us homeschoolers/unschoolers so we took to the beach like we do every year with The Un/Homeschool Club of Ontario (Canada). More than 30 families joined us for a fun but damp day celebrating not being stuck in a classroom! Jaze ran a LARP battle game and the kids LOVED it while the Parents connected and shared, some new to homeschooling and some who have been doing it for years. Thank you to all who came out! We had a blast as always! Our car has been giving us some problems so we had to go back to our garage , Craft Auto ( which we love ), and while it was being worked on, we took the city bus to meet our dear homeschool friends at the Barrie Public Library! We got books, talked and played together. Such a good time. Hope decided she'd like to start cooking eggs so she has been boiling her own, Jaze got LegoWorlds and they have been playing it together, there was also colouring and drawing, Minecraft, roleplay with and without toys, lego and Hope learned to ride her bike without training wheels!!!!! Video to come so stay tuned to our Youtube Channel.
