Peaceful Parenting an Energy Intuitive Child

Peaceful Parenting An Inuitive Child Article Title

This past Friday, our family volunteered at Big Curve Acres Farm and we decided to head the beach afterward for a cool down from the hot day. We enjoyed the refreshing water and played games together while swimming. Jaze and I started to get cold and explained to Hope we were getting out to dry off.

Hope, 9, swimming at our favorite beach.

All of a sudden, she started acting out. She was very emotionally sensitive, with no obvious trigger, pushing past boundaries by throwing wet sand after the person declined and swimming far enough away that she could pretend she didn't hear us. And lying about these behaviors. ("I didn't know, I didn't hear." She did know, she did hear.) And then, the silent treatment. O.O This was all so out of character for Hope. I became triggered so I went to my emotional tool box and used deep breathing, asking myself a helpful and focusing question, "How can I peacefully parent my way through this?" Jaze and I put all our effort into engaging respectfully with Hope to figure out what had our girl so off all of a sudden and keeping her safe all the while.

Summer Swimming

During the emotional chaos, I happened to notice a boy, no more than 10 years old, sitting at the table next to ours, sobbing. I looked around for his family and spotted them in the field a bit away on a blanket together. I started to wonder if Hope's upset had anything to do with this scene because anytime Hope melts down, it's in public and around kids who are also having issues. We were in the car on the way home before Daddy mentioned that the boy we'd noticed had a huge blowout with his family and was crying alone at the table afterward.

After surviving a very silent, emotional car ride home (Hope was still not communicating so I respected her, but was I sad so I cried.), Hope came to me as I sat out on our porch and looked straight into my heart. I gently asked her if she thought she was feeling that boy from the beach to which she immediately replied yes. All the behavior immediately dissipated and she melted into my lap while we discussed how to help recognize our senses and manage our feelings in the future. Hope is an Empath. She naturally feels the feelings of others around her, as if they are her own, without even noticing. Both Jaze and I are also highly sensitive Empaths. Thanks to Peaceful Parenting, we have provided a safe space for Hope to grow into her abilities and learn to navigate them with our understanding and support to help along the way.

This Week It was an energy heavy week so we backed off on the plans and just stuck to some camping out, beach visits and volunteering at Big Curve Acres. We also, sang, danced and kept an eye one our Monarch Nursery. Hope drew, did some waterplay, watched youtube, played minecraft, roleplayed independantly and as a group, played outside and even baked a refined sugar free cake with Jaze. Our week ended with a wonderful, enlightening visit to a beautiful friend's nearby certified organic farm, Earth Valley Organics. They also homeschool so Hope played with one of their 2 awesome kids, somewhat older in age, and was shown how they let out their horses and even got to lead one of them. (She beamed about this on the way home, excited and honoured by the experience.) She was taken out in their garden/farm vehicle several times much to her delight. We separated petals for salves and talked of all things naturally growing and more. Jaze had a blast talking and playing D&D with their son as well. And to top it off, we were gifted some of their first year's harvest of Haskap berries, some organic seeds and fresh garlic with scapes and all. Love this family and what they are doing for the planet. If you want to support local, organic farmers, please check out Earth Valley Organics! We love their spelt flour, strawberries and other produce and they share freely all they've learned along the way!
