Summer Volunteering & Unschool Week
Every summer, our family volunteers at Big Curve Acres.
Hope actually got us our position when we first began visiting in 2015 with her natural ability with their animals and frequent request to return and spend as much time as possible there. We've owned our own horse since 2011 and have cared for other animals prior to this as well. We have learned so much and had many magical moments at the farm every July and August.
Through this experience Hope (and our whole family) now knows how to catch and hold baby and teenage chicks (chickens), ducklings and bunnies, hold and lead baby goats, help people get close to all of the above, give tours of the farm, feed a calf a bottle, hold and calm piglets, feed emus safely and so, so much more. We've handled an alpaca, a donkey, a mini horse, goats, sheep, watered and cleaned up after the animals, help with set up/take down and more.
We even got to attend The Big Feastival Canada as Big Curve Acres volunteers which was an absolute blast and we were so grateful. (We got to meet Fred Penner! - Check out the blog article for the details!)

This Week
Aside from volunteering at Big Curve Acres, it was hot so we were drawn to our favorite local beach quite a few times.
We camped out and ate by the fire, found some monarch caterpillars to raise, hit up the Drive In to see Spiderman: Far From Home and play on the retro playground, discovered delicious wild strawberries at our campsite, enjoyed breakfast at Nicholyn Farms in the Barrie Farmer's Market, splashed in the City of Barrie's wading pool, played outside on our land and worked out our beloved horse, River. Jaze even found a really cool book series that Hope is loving so much she carries the book everywhere she goes since we picked it up from the Barrie Public Library.
