Kids, Kindness & Our Unschooled Week
A Better World Is a Kinder World
💫I recently read a post about explaining to kids the science of kindness. It was full of positivity and truth.💫 What I noticed though, is it lacked discussing a vital key in living a life of kindness. In order to give to others freely, we need to feel that we are not lacking ourselves. If we always give when we are at a deficit, or feel we are, we will be sending a message to our core programming about our worth. In order to keep treading the waters of kindness without drowning, we must make sure we are floating confidently before we attempt to uplift others. And the best way to teach kids about kindness, isn't actually explaining it or encouraging them to be kind to others, especially small children.
Be Kind To Children The first place to start when instilling kindness in kids sounds simple. Be kind to them. But what a child feels is kind and what an adult feels is kind can often be different. An 8 year old asking for a glass of water that they can get themselves could be construed as lazy. Or it could be an opportunity for kindness. Kindness that will be remembered and manifest into understanding when kindness is asked of them. The kindness we perform on children is a deep investment that sometimes takes time to see the results the way we expect, but rest assured, it is never a wasted effort. So if we want kids to share, we need to share with them. If we want kids to care, we need to care about all their feelings. If we want kids to give, we need to give to them freely and consistently. If we want kids to help, we need to help them eagerly. If we want kids to love, we need to love them unconditionally. With abandon. This is the path to a kinder world.
This Week
We had our amazing radical unschooling friends over for a wonderful visit and they even brought a sweet little Spring present 🌷 for Hope that included some all natural playdough. It smelled INCREDIBLE! So grateful; they are such a light in our lives. We hosted a 🎨 FreeArt Event with our Un/Homeschool Club which was a super blast and the Mom Chat afterward was so fulfilling! Hope, Jaze and the rest of the kids played and created and connected as well. Love our community. We got outside, had a picnic and a hike, baked cookies🍪 and met up with friends for a game night! They recently got a puppy 🐕 so Hope was in heaven with that, and of course had tons of fun playing with her friends!
🐊 This week we share footage from our visit to a local wildlife festival, attend a FreeArt Event and so much more! 🐾
