Freeschoolin' @The BPL Comic Con

We love Dress-Up/Cosplay!

I mean, why grow up? *grin*

Nothing could have made us miss our 3rd year in a row attending the Barrie Public Library Comic Con. (Not even a very ill-timed power outage.) This year was bigger than ever with 3 different stations set around downtown Barrie, Ontario.

First stop was the library. We were dressed as Michael Myers, a Mord Sith (from a book/TV series) and an adorable cat.

There were a bunch of crafts for kids to do, so Hope made 2 different kinds of dragon eggs.

Then we headed off to City Hall where they were doing some sword play demos. Because we LARP and make our own boffer swords, we opted to skip this experience and go to the last station at Five Points Theatre. Here, Game On, Barrie's annual gaming festival, featured a Virtual Reality experience and other awesome gaming activities, including a popular video game tournament. Hope and Freeschoolin' Daddy spent 2 hours at the Vertex VR Booth, taking as many turns as they could. They had a blast and I loved watching their joy. Personally, videogames aren't my thing, but I love being supportive of their passions like they are of mine, and the vibe of the people around was awesome!

We went back to the library and picked out some movies to end our super fun day.

Subjects: Reading, Art, Hand-Eye Coordination, Resource Management, Group Social Skills, Physical Activity, Imagination, Creative Play, Navigation, City Safety, Stress Management, Decision Making, Math, so much more.

Thank you so much to the Barrie Public Library for putting on this FREE community event. We will definitely be back next year and bringing our friends!!!!
