Life Without School: What Does It Look Like?

This week... Our second week of Not Back to School included a LARP in the Park, Playground fun and swimming at the beach instead of sitting in a classroom. And WOW did we learn!

We ran a LARP (Live Action Role Play) game through our L.A.S.T. Productions Company for our local Un/Homeschool Club and everyone had a great time! It's a game we augmented from Capture the Flag and ages 4 - 40+ can play together safely. Subjects: Team Building, Outdoor Activity, Strategy, Risk Assessment, Compassion, Energy Management, Hand-Eye Coordination, Endurance, Conflict Resolution, Socialization, Math, Respect for Others, Reading, so much more...

Hope and friends had a blast in the playground, doing some risky play and adventuring in the forest.

The weather has been lovely and nothing was holding us back so off to the beach we went. The water was so warm and clear. Couldn't imagine a better classroom for that day. Summer seems longer for us because we enjoy it as long as it lasts; sometimes a month longer than those attending school! Subjects: Exercise, Roleplay, Water Safety, Family Bonding, Fear Management, Animal Observation and Identification, Weather Monitoring, so much more...

Of course there was so much more we ended up doing like shopping, reading story books, campfire, Minecraft, crafting Minecraft skins, drawing, colouring, pretend play with toys, barn chores, harvesting crops and playing with felt. Subjects: Art, Working together, Reading, Math, Retail, Animal Care, Agriculture, Fire Safety, Creative Thinking, Time Management. so much more...

When we let go of what we were told in school, that learning is done in a four-walled classroom, we can't stop seeing how much that way of thinking inhibited us and seemingly much of society. We are free. To learn from everything, every day. It looks different for everyone, and this is how it is for our family.
